- Overall less satisfying trilogy than The-Broken-Earth-Trilogy.
But the world is inventive, unique and interesting. Shift in perspective in each novel is ambitious, with big changes in each that have long-lasting consequences. The world shifts between each novel.
- Sieh as a godling is more removed from our perspective- harder to adjust to his point of view.
- As a result, there’s a lot more exposition at the start of the novel. Usually the way Jemisen writes is exposition after the event, but it is flipped in this novel.
- Second half is much more successful. Climax is intense and interesting.
